The Lions have won six straight games to close to within a game of Calgary in the West and are coming off a win against the other team competing for the Division crown, the Edmonton Eskimos.
Calgary snapped a two game losing streak with an impressive 40-3 romp over the Saskatchewan Rough Riders in Week 14 in a game that the defense surrendered just 234 total yards. The running game was the difference in last week’s game – Jon Cornish rumbled for 149 yards and two scores and the team compiled an impressive 230 yards and three scores on the ground.
With Henry Burris at the helm and with names like Nik Lewis, Ken-Yon Rambo and Romby Bryant on the receiving end of Burris’s catches, BC’s superb defense will certainly have its hands full with the well balanced Stamps.
The BC Lions are on a roll! The offense is getting it done and the defense is rounding into the form that many predicted before the season started.
The Lions were a Grey Cup favorite before the season and their recent play suggests that the prognosticators had it right all along!
BC has gotten solid and somewhat unexpectedly elite numbers from Travis Lulay who passed for 288 yards and three scores while adding a touchdown on the ground last week.
He is currently second in the CFL in passing yards (3456) and passing touchdowns (20) while at the same time he is averaging an incredible eight yards per carry with three rushing scores.
BC’s defense has been excellent since their 1-6 start. Currently they hold their opposition to a league best 20.8 points per game and they are third against the pass allowing 259.7 yards per game. The Lions defense can dictate games as they have shown during their impressive six game win streak.
Betting Prediction: BC has won six straight games overall and have taken three of the last four contests from the Calgary Stampeders, including a 32-19 road win at Calgary three weeks ago. The Lions have been superb in the last few years when playing at BC Place Stadium.
However, Calgary’s offense is extremely well balanced and is as unpredictable as any team in the league right now. With weapons in the running and receiving game, BC’s defense may have found its match.
Calgary will pull the upset, put an end to BC’s impressive win streak and create a little room between themselves and the Lions in the Western Conference standings.
Pick: Calgary Stampeders +4
