Lions (5-2) vs Blue Bombers (2-5)
Lions head east to take on struggling Blue Bombers
The BC Lions enter Week 9 on the CFL season where most had predicted they would be – atop the CFL standings and looking very much like the team that won it all last season. This week the Lions travel to Winnipeg to take on the Joey Elliot led Blue Bombers – a team that has looked OK at times this season but has failed to get the wins necessary to contend in the Eastern Division.

The BC Lions have won three straight games ahead of their Week 9 showdown with Winnipeg.
After back-to-back losses to Saskatchewan and Edmonton, BC has looked untouchable and it is mostly thanks to a defense that has failed to surrendered a touchdown in three straight and has given up a total of 22 points during the three game streak.
Travis Lulay continues to run an efficient yet unspectacular offense to perfection. Last week he had a ho-hum 257 yards passing and a touchdown while adding another 27 yards rushing in the win.
Truth be told, the Lions haven’t needed their pass catching playmakers – Andrew Harris has been sensational and it is he that has dictated the pace of the game.
The Lions are uber-balanced on offense and they enjoy top flight weapons in the passing and the running games – scary for any team opposing them!
Defense has been the name of the game for the Lions lately – they are simply the most dominating unit in the land. They get after the quarterback, they force turnovers and they simply don’t make mistakes.
The Blue Bombers started Joey Elliot at quarterback last week to the surprise of many and he did not disappoint. Elliot passed for an impressive 406 yards and a touchdown in just his third career start against Hamilton and garnered CFL Player of the Week honors in the process. But those numbers came against Hamilton.
BC’s defense offers up a completely different type of challenge!
Elliot made the players around him better last week – Chris Matthews had eight catches for 118 yards and a TD while the running game produced two scores on the ground.
Offensively Winnipeg looks to be in some good hands – now if they could just get some results.
Defensively the Bombers have given up a ton of yards this season (439 last week) but they have had a knack for forcing fumbles – 11 this season already. But to rely on turnovers against BC is not a good idea – they have turned the ball over just seven times this year.

You’ve heard it before and you’ll hear it again – the Under should be safe in any of BC’s games.
The 5 1/2 points looks like a bit of a gift as well. Joey Elliot will struggle against the insane BC defense and the Lions will plod along as they usually do.
Winnipeg may keep the game close for a while but in the end it will be the ball control offense of the Lions that will overmatch the Bombers. BC is simple in a different league on both sides of the ball!
