BC Lions (4-6) at Calgary (7-3)
Wow, what a difference a couple of weeks make. Going into last week’s game between Toronto and BC there was optimism for both teams – each club had won the week before and looked good doing so.

A Western Conference showdown highlights Week 12 of the CFL when the BC Lions, winners of three straight games and four of five overall travel to Calgary to take of a Stampeders team that sits atop the CFL standings and is coming off an impressive win over provincial rivals – Edmonton. With BC coming on strong, the Stamps will be looking to squash momentum and to create a little more space between themselves and the hard-charging Lions.
BC has been a different team since the acquisition of Arland Bruce. It is amazing how one player’s presence can change the attitude and the results of a Football club. I know that the Lions had the benefit of playing the lowly Argonauts the last two weeks but there is no denying that the team looked good in every aspect of the game.
Travis Lulay passed for 263 yards last week and once again was able to limit any game-changing mistakes. He has been effective in using all of his weapons downfield – weapons that have had more room since Arland Bruce arrived in town. The passing game is clicking but the running game is still rather underwhelming – last in the CFL with an average of 96.2 yards rushing per game.
Calgary laid an egg two weeks ago against Edmonton but more than made up for it last week. They are as balanced an offense as we’ve seen from them in a long while. Last week, the running game was responsible for an impressive 182 yards while the passing game added 316. Henry Burris is playing well and has two of the best receivers in the CFL – Nik Lewis and Ken-Yon Rambo at his disposal. Calgary is good and should be amped for their third straight Western Conference foe.
Betting Prediction: The BC Lions have won two of the last three meeting between the clubs. Surprisingly, the Calgary Stampeders are just 2-3 SU at home this season while they have gone 5-0 on the road.
This is a tough game to predict indeed. But one thing that I know – it will be a close game.
BC’s Paul McCallum just may be the difference in this one.
With that belief, I’m taking the road team to at least cover the 5 points this week.
The West is about to get a lot tighter!
Pick: BC Lions +5
