Just Heatin Up!
Football season is around the corner and for you B.C. Lions fans; there is certainly a lot to look forward to.
Can we expect another 1-6 start? Absolutely Not!
Obviously it is a bit early to be talking about a possible CFL MVP but in my view this award has been won even before training camps start!
Let’s take a look at five reasons that Travis Lulay will be named CFL MVP for 2012.
5. BC’s Defense
This unit has been one of the most dominant groups in the CFL in the last five years. The create sacks, turnovers at an almost unparalleled rate.
With short fields to work with and a few more possessions per game than most teams, the Lions defense will make Lulay’s stats look even more impressive than if he had just an average defense to work with.
Travis Lulay entered last season as a relative unknown with the weight of a franchise on his shoulders – not an enviable task for a young QB. But last year proved that he is more than capable of being “The Man”.
With confidence and swagger will come a more dangerous BC pivot.
Lulay instantly becomes the leader of this team and if they succeed, Lulay will get a ton of credit. On leadership, “That’s kind of a natural spot for me,” said Lulay. “Honestly, I feel comfortable being in that leadership position and, by nature, the quarterback is one of the leaders.”
2. He is a complete quarterback
Lulay finished as the CFL’s second-leading passer in 2011 with 4,815 yards on 342 completions and tied for the CFL lead with 32 TD passes. He also ranked second among quarterbacks in rushing yards, scampering for 391 yards on 47 attempts including 14 gains of 10 or more yards.
1. The BC offense
Sure this squad struggled in the first half of the season last year but with the running back situation all-but-set and the duo of Arland Bruce and Geroy Simon, this offensive machine is built for success.
If and only if Lulay has an “off game” there are players around to make him look awfully good.
We know this for a fact as we head into 2012. Lulay won’t be flying under the radar any longer!
By winning the Grey Cup MVP, Lulay has anointed himself as one of the more high profile players in the CFL. Lulay will be scrutinized from Week 1 and he won’t disappoint!
