BC Lions Arland Bruce gives the Leo’s a new attitude

BC Swagger…

It was a questionable acquisition at the time, as the BC Lions Arland Bruce‘s past actions have not left a favorable impression on his former clubs.  Following a couple of trips south, hoping to catch on with the NFL and a trio of stops in Eastern Division, Bruce now hopes to add a second Grey Cup ring to his resume with the BC Lions (a team he helped defeat in 2004 with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers).

Joining the club in early August, Bruce found himself sitting and learning the system for the next ten days before suiting up against the first club to give him a CFL contract, the Winnipeg Blue Bombers.

BC Lions Arland Bruce Has "Swagger!!"

Posting four catches and thirty four yards, the wide receiver made a subtle impact on the field, but it was in the locker room where his presence was felt the most.

Following an 0-5 start and only one victory in their first seven games, the coincidence between the addition of Bruce to the team and their recent five game winning streak is beyond strong.

With the combination of injuries and struggles of receiver Paris Jackson this season, the Lions were in desperate need to find another recipient of Travis Lulay‘s tosses.

Sitting on top of the Lions leader board for touchdowns are Akeem Foster and Tim Brown with six apiece, while Geroy Simon and Bruce trail by just one with five apiece.

One of those five came as a result of an incredible 100 yard run to help stomp the Roughriders last weekend, bringing not only the fans, but just as importantly, his teammates and coaches to their feet in appreciation of his effort as the team left Empire Field with a very important “W”.

After eleven years in the league, no longer the young buck on the squad, as  he may be one step closer to the downside of his career, the addition of Arland Bruce has helped kick the butts of the Lion “cubs” in practice and offers them a veteran ear on the sidelines and in the huddles during gameday.

While age certainly will help put a lid on some of his on field antics (Spiderman mask, TD tribute to the late King of Pop to name but a few),  it is not for the lack of trying to bring a confident, if not border line cocky attitude to a club that a few months ago was in desperate need of an identity.
