Gonzaga Bulldogs Thru the Years

With respect to the other sports played by the Zags, Gonzaga is a basketball school. Particularly exciting is that most of Gonzaga’s college hoops success has come in recent seasons. Gonzaga has made the NCAA Tournament 14 times – but all since 1995.

The Zags have four Sweet Sixteen berths this millenium (2000, 2001, 2006, 2009) and reached the Elite Eight in 1999.

These days, Gonzaga owns the WCC, having won the regular season title every years since 2001 and the conference tourney eight times in the last 10 years. The Zags are one of only nine schools to have reached the NCAA Tournament each of the last 10 years and are the only non-major school to do so.

Among the most famous Gonzaga alumni: Adam Morrison, Dan Dickau and Ronny Turiaf.

But there’s another famous guy to hail from Bulldog country in Spokane, Washington.

Oh yeah. It’s John Stockton. Ever heard of him?

That’s right. Basketball Hall-of-Famer John Stockton, the NBA’s all-time leader in assists and steals, played his college ball at Gonzaga.

Simply put, no other mid-major school has accomplished what Gonzaga has over the last 15 years.

Go Zags!
