Vancouver Whitecaps FC announced today that the club have acquired midfielder and Jamaican international Dane Richards, as well as allocation money, from New York Red Bulls in exchange for striker Sebastien Le Toux.

Richards is 28 and will move to Vancouver after five-and-a-half seasons with the Red Bulls.

Richards will join his new teammates in Chicago this evening and be available for Saturday’s Major League Soccer match versus Chicago Fire at Toyota Park. Per club and league policies, terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Le Toux has been nothing but a professional. He will be missed in Vancouver. He joined Van City from Philadelphia in exchange for allocation money on January 31, 2012.

During his short spell with Vancouver, the Frenchman scored four goals and had one assist in 19 league appearances with Whitecaps FC.
