2012 NHL Trade Deadline Tracking/Discussion/Implications
We'll keep this Western Conference based unless people really want to discuss Philly picking up defencemen.
The first domino falls to Nashville
D Hal Gill
Conditional 5th-Round Pick (2013)
FOR
F Blake Geoffrion
F Robert Slaney
2nd-Round Pick (2012
The USS Hal Gill is best at the penalty kill and a sturdy, if aging, piece to add to Nashville's blueline. He'll help defensively, but won't help the Preds where they really need it, goals for. Can stingy defence prevail?

Where does Rick Nash go? (If anywhere)
-
I don't think Rick Nash moves anywhere at the deadline, if Canucks don't win the cup this year, he will be a Canuck in the summer guaranteed.

F Steve Downie to Colorado
D Kyle Quincey to Detroit
1st round 2012 + D Sebastian Piche to Tampa Bay
Interesting move for Colorado, bit of a weird one for Detroit. Either Holland thinks highly of Quincy or lowly of the late round pickings in this summer's draft.
-
Bit of both I bet, 2012 is a weak draft, and Quincey is a solid defenceman. I can see him putting up 45-50 points next season playing on the Detroit PP. In other news, Columbus shipped Antoine Vermette to the Coyotes for a 2012 2nd, a conditional 2013 5th, and Curtis McElhinney, looks like Columbus finally got their goalie

Tuomo Ruutu re-signs with Carolina, taking him off the market.
That Vermette deal is good for Phoenix, they needed a quality centre.
And yeah McBackup is probably a starter now. Poor, poor Columbus.

Jeff Carter is on his way to the West Coast.
The L.A. Kings acquired the centre from the Columbus Blue Jackets on Thursday night for defenceman Jack Johnson and a conditional first-round pick.
The deal is pending both players passing a physical Friday.
You remember how Philly blew up their team to get rid of Carter and Nash because otherwise their hard-partying ways would have brought down the entire team? Well, the Kings are betting that won't be a problem in Los Angeles.

VAN put Keith Ballard on LTIR, Creates $4.2M worth of cap space. May be setting up for deal. Maybe I Ott to look into that. #TradeCentre

Mason Raymond for Steve Ott is the hot rumour.
-
I still don't see Ott's personality jiving with the Canucks. A lot of things can be said about the integrity of the team but I think Steve Ott is a little more attitude than the Canucks can handle.
-
If the coaches can keep Lappy,Burrows, and Kesler in line, they should have no problem keeping a veteran like Ott in line too. Get er done Gillis! But I'd rather get Dustin Brown then Ott, but Brown will probably be alot more expensive.
