Canucks re-sign Mason Raymond - Queue the band

We found out today via the Vancouver Canucks on Twitter and via their press release that they've re-signed Mason Raymond. It's a 1 year 2.275M contact. WOW. Congrats May-Ray. Your rich.

Queue the band in Vancouver, as this move will be met with a chorus of Boos and Jeers I'm sure.

Per Capgeek.com the Canucks now have the No. 3 cap payroll in #NHL — $67.1M, 22 players are signed.

Vancouver, B.C. - Vancouver Canucks President & General Manager Mike Gillis announced today that the Canucks have re-signed left wing Mason Raymond.

Raymond, 26, collected 20 points (10-10-20) in 55 games played with Vancouver in 2011.12. He also appeared in five post-season games, recording one point (0-1-1). The Cochrane, Alberta native has registered 156 career points (70-86-156) over the span of 328 NHL games. He was awarded the Fred J. Hume Award as the “Canucks Unsung Hero” in 2010 and was appointed to the NHL YoungStars Sophomore Team in 2009.

On the International stage, Raymond represented Canada at the 2010 World Championships.

The 6’0”, 185 lbs. forward was originally drafted by Vancouver in the second round, 51st overall in the 2005 NHL Entry Draft.

Most of us here at NWSB share the same opinion of Raymond. We wrote this in May.

It’s time to break up with Mason Raymond, which will be tough because he’s such a nice guy.

Bottom Line! Plain & Simple! Enough is Enough! Mason Raymond must go.

It’s just that he has no real place on this team, so much so that I probably don’t even need to spell it out.

It’s not that Mason Raymond isn’t a hockey player, it’s that he’s not what the Canucks need right now.

    It’s not him, it’s us.

Dead weight. I'm sure he'll have a great career, just not in Vancouver. Time to let it go. Also, think about all the guys who haven't been given as many chances as Mason Raymond...
