Canucks sign defenseman Patrick Mullen
Today we learned via the Vancouver Canucks team website that they've signed Patrick Mullen.
The 26 year old Pittsburgh PA native was undrafted. He is a 6'0" 181lbs right handed shooting defenseman.
He collected 20 points (3-17-20) in 67 games in 2010/11 with the Manchester Monarchs of the AHL.
He also appeared in seven playoff games, recording one point and four penalty minutes.
In 2009 Mullen signed as a free agent by the Los Angeles Kings. He then went onto sign a one-year contract with the Kings on July 15, 2011.
According to hockeysfuture.com - Mullen isn't overly physical, nor offensively inclined, but has and play a multitude of roles for whatever team.
To me, it sounds like Mullen is a 8 or 9th D on the depth chart at this point, a little more padding for the Wolves. Makes sense if guys like Kevin Connautain are going to get a look this season.
