Per a tweet from Chip Alexander (Carolina Hurricanes reporter for the Raleigh News & Observer Derek Joslin formerly of the Hurricanes signed with the Vancouver Canucks.

Vancouver radio station WX1130 is also reporting the news now.

Alexander reports the contract is a 1-year, 2-way contract.

Joslin is a 6'1" 210 lbs left handed defenseman from Richmond Hill, Ontario.

He was a San Jose Sharks 5th round pick in the 2005 NHL Draft played for the Ottawa 67's of the OHL, Joslin made his NHL debut with the Sharks in 2009 vs. the N.Y. Islanders.

He has played 114 NHL games.

Last year Joslin was traded to the Carolina Hurricanes for future considerations.

He was placed on unconditional waivers this past Friday with the purpose of buying out his $750k (2-Year/1-Way contract.)

In 44 games last season, Joslin had two goals and two assists.

He'll come to camp in the fall and compete for a job on the big league team. Odds are though he's got an uphill battle on his hands.

Yesterday we originally heard about this signing via the twitter like we do everything in life now, the account belonging to

Jamie Joslin, Derek's sister. Coincidently she's also a hockey player attending Robert Morris University.
