Canucks make the Justin Schultz shortlist
He's met his reps in Toronto and now newly UFA'd Justin Schultz the 22-year-old from Kelowna, BC has a shortlist of NHL teams he can see himself playing on.
The list includes our Vancouver Canucks, the Toronto Maple Leafs, the New York Rangers, the Ottawa Senators and the (gasp) Edmonton Oilers.
We've heard that the Oilers brass plan to include Taylor Hall in the team pitch.
For Vancouver we're jokingly heard that Alain Vigneault is along with Mike Gillis for the tire pump, and we've also heard Pavel Bure the newly minted Hall of Famer could fly in from his winery in California. I kid I kid.
Whats all the fuss about with Schultz you ask?
He only led all NCAA defenceman with 16 goals and 44 points and was a finalist for the Hobey Baker Award for the second straight season.
Schultz is eligible for a two-year deal for the entry-level maximum salary according to CapGeek.com.
Today on Twitter TSN's insider Bob McKenzie tweeted these gems about him. <blockquote class="twitter-tweet"><p>At 18, Schultz identified as solid prospect, ANA's 2nd-rd pick in 08 out of BCHL. <blockquote class="twitter-tweet"><p>But he's still a 22-yr-old Dman who hasn't played an NHL game and like all young guys playing a tough position, he'll have his ups/downs.</p>— Bob McKenzie (@TSNBobMcKenzie) <a href="https://twitter.com/TSNBobMcKenzie/status/218367923188793344" data-datetime="2012-06-28T15:39:04+00:00">June 28, 2012</a></blockquote>

<blockquote class="twitter-tweet"><p>Never any guarantees with any player but you would be hard pressed to find an NHL scout who doesn't think Schultz has tremendous upside.</p>— Bob McKenzie (@TSNBobMcKenzie) <a href="https://twitter.com/TSNBobMcKenzie/status/218368260989652992" data-datetime="2012-06-28T15:40:25+00:00">June 28, 2012</a></blockquote>

Time will tell. But keep your fingers crossed Canucks fans. I don't think we let go of Aaron Rome and Marc-Andre Gragnani for nothing.
