According to TSN's Bob McKenzie the NHL has changed its mind and requested an in-person hearing with Duncan Keith which the defenceman waived, meaning the suspension is no longer limited to less than five games. More to come as news of the length of the suspension breaks this afternoon.

That notion, coupled with the possibility of retribution contributed to the five games being handed out.
As for the earlier hit by Sedin on Keith, the league would not comment publicly if the referees should have called a penalty but Meagher simply said “it did not rise to the level of needing supplemental discipline.”
It’s possible the league viewed the hit as a shoulder-to-high chest hit and not anything more nefarious than that.

At what points does the NHL admit its system is indeed broken? 5 games is a vacation, and slap in the face. The garage league rises again while next door Roger Goodell is running his league like a BOSS.

Nice. Something really needs to be done. Throwing games at Keith isn't the answer, they should be aiming to prevent these plays all together.
