Vancouver, B.C. - Vancouver Canucks President & General Manager Mike Gillis announced today that the Canucks have signed goaltender Joe Cannata.
Cannata, 22, appeared in 36 games for Merrimack College in 2011.12, posting a record of 17-12-7, goals against average of 2.18 and was named Hockey East Defense Player of the Month for October. Following the season he ranked third in Hockey East and 14th Nationally in goals against average and third in Hockey East and 11th nationally in save percentage. The 6’1”, 200-pound goaltender holds the school’s record for most wins by a goaltender (59) and became the first in Merrimack’s history to post a shutout in his first career game.
Cannata has also competed as a member of the U.S. National Under 18-Team and won the 2008 U-18 Five Nations Tournament title as a member of Team USA.
The Wakefield, MA, native was originally selected in the sixth round, 173rd overall by the Vancouver Canucks in the 2009 NHL Entry Draft.
