NHL to make major announcement today

The National Hockey League will make a major announcement in Detroit today.

The press conference will take place at Comerica Park in Detroit, beginning at 10:30 a.m. ET. It will be carried live on NHL Network and NHL.com.

The event will continue at Michigan Stadium in Ann Arbor, Mich.

In a badly kept rumor I expect we'll hear the Detroit Red Wings will host the 2013 Winter Classic.

The game will feature the home team against the Toronto Maple Leafs at Michigan Stadium.

The Buffalo Sabres, Chicago Blackhawks, Boston Bruins, Pittsburgh Penguins and Philadelphia Flyers have hosted the Winter Classic in the past.

But you've got to think the crowd for a Michigan Stadium game would be the biggest wouldn't you?

Michigan and Michigan State had 104,173 fans for an outdoor game on Dec. 11, 2010.

NHL commissioner Gary Bettman, NHLPA executive director Donald Fehr and representatives from both teams are expected to be on hand for the news conference.
