The new MLS season will be the longest ever both overall and in the regular season, but the Sounders will still travel over 9,000 miles fewer than they did last season.
TheY do not start the season until the 2nd week of the MLS season so they can face Santos Laguna in a home and away series in the CONCACAF Champions League quarterfinal knockout phase.
With the new schedule in the MLS the Sounders will face the teams from the Western Conference 3 times while only playing the teams from the Eastern Conference once.
One good thing for the Sounders this season is that they face defending MLS champs L.A. Galaxy twice at home with one of the matches taking place during the Olympic games.
Seattle opens the season at home facing Toronto FC
The Sounders can get off to a great start of the season, as their first 3 matches are at home.
Their 3rd match facing Dynamo Houston will be their first one being aired on the brand new NBC Sports Network.
Seattle won the Cascadia Derby last season against the 2 other northwest teams of Vancouver and Portland, but it not be so easy to repeat with the Whitecaps and Timbers hosting 2 of their 3 matching facing the Sounders this season.
Against the Eastern Conference teams this season the Sounders will host Toronto, Houston, Philadelphia, Columbus, and Kansas City and the will hit the road to face DC United, Chicago, Montreal, New England, and New York.
The Sounders can exact some revenge against the team that knocked them out last season facing Real Salt Lake twice at home on May 12th and July 18th and then in Salt Lake City on America's birthday of July 4th.
The Sounders 2012 schedule is Western Conference heavy toward the end of the season with their last 14 matches all from the west.
From April 28th to May 12th the Sounders will play 5 matches, but at least 5 of them will be held at CenturyLink Field.
The Sounders will have 12 matches on national TV with 6 on the ESPN networks and 6 on the NBC networks and 4 of their last 5 matches will be on national TV.
