    Wednesday's MLS expansion draft

Protect the 11 best players on your team. That's all MLS teams are doing.

The Sounders have protected forwards Fredy Montero and Sammy Ochoa; midfielders Osvaldo Alonso, Brad Evans, Alvaro Fernandez, Erik Friberg, Lamar Neagle, Mauro Rosales and Steve Zakuani; defenders Jhon Kennedy Hurtado and Jeff Parke.

Montreal will select 10 unprotected players leaguewide at a noon press conference. Per draft rules, teams cannot lose more than one.

We'll update this thread when we no more.

In round 7 of the MLS expansion draft the Sounders lost James Riley.

Tough, well traveled right back who became a fan favorite in Seattle with his uncompromising play and embracing of the local community. TRADED: To Chivas USA for Justin Braun and Gerson Mayen. is what MLSSOccer.com had to say about James.

    Goodbye James.

In a deal announced after the draft, left back Tyson Wahl was traded to Montreal in exchange for allocation money, which can be used to buy down player salaries in relation to the salary cap.

Wahl made a career-high 22 MLS starts this season and was the first-choice left back for much of the year.

Riley and Wahl combined for approximately $150,000 in salary in 2011.
