A few days ago Ed Werder of ESPN said the Seahawks were close to landing Winfield.

Now first reported by Josina Anderson of ESPN Winfield has agreed in principal to sign a free agent contract to play for the Seahawks in 2013.
Here's the tweet.

The Minnesota Vikings and the Seattle Seahawks were both vying for his services but the chance at playing with a Super Bowl contending club has won out this time. Is this a case of the rich getting richer? In 2013 the Seahawks finished 11-5 record and they had the 4th ranked defense overall, including the 6th best passing defense.
Winfield will turn 36 this season, and he was a first-round pick out of Ohio State in the 1999 draft by the Buffalo Bills.
His age shouldn't scare Seahawks fans. We've know for 3 years now that Pete Carroll like vets in the locker room for his young defense. Marcus Trufant, and Lawyer Milloy have been mentors on this team in the past, and both prooved they could contribute. It's obvious Winfield would be brought in to replace Trufant, and give some more competition for the 3rd DB spot behind starters Brandon Browner and Richard Sherman. Jeremy Lane, and Walter Thurmond would also be in the mix.
Need a little scouting/background info on Winfield?
Scouts Inc. says "Winfield bounced back from a clavicle injury in 2011 to have another excellent season in 2012. He is an undersized perimeter defender who can also move inside to the nickel position. Winfield has been playing with diminishing skills, but he still has enough athleticism to be effective."
Winfield will be playing in his 15th season in 2013, and for his career he's grabbed 972 tackles, 7.5 sacks, and 27 interceptions.
On Wednesday Werder said the Vikings released Winfield in March but wanted him to return. It now looks like a reunion won't be in the cards.
