Seahawks Come Up Victorious In Preseason Opener

I totally forgot to post this. I wrote it on Monday AM, it got lost in my notes.

A 5 dimes review of Seattle’s preseason opener against Tennessee should be positive about the Seahawks’ performance, but not too positive as there is a long way to go in Seattle, especially at quarterback.

Matt Flynn was 11-of-13 for 71 yards and a pick in a 27-17 win over the Titans at home, but Russell Wilson may have been more impressive, although players that use price per head systems would point out that he did his work in the second half when the Titans had fourth and fifth-string players on the field. Wilson was 12-of-16 for 124 yards, a touchdown and a pick, and he also scrambled for a 32-yard score as he showed the Seattle fans what he showed the fans at Wisconsin last season: he can make plays. Tarvaris Jackson never saw the field, and that could be a telling sign that the Seahawks are ready to go with a duo of Flynn and Wilson, but you could still see Jackson in the preseason.

Braylon Edwards caught a 39-yard pass from Wilson as he tries to work himself back into the good graces of fans and football betting (check out more odds here) players everywhere after imploding in San Francisco. Edwards still has the tools, but the key for Edwards has always been his focus and he needs to keep it as he is probably battling for one spot against Terrell Owens, who didn’t feature against the Titans, but could this week in Denver, where the Seahawks will face Peyton Manning and the Broncos.

The Seattle defense picked off two passes and Brandon Browner ran one back 23 yards to open the scoring, and the Seahawks could improve their NFL betting odds a little if their defense could give the offense a hand in terms of scoring points. Don’t expect this to happen a lot in the regular season, but you never know; you could see a more aggressive unit in Seattle in 2012.

In other news, the NFL hasn’t passed down any judgment yet on running back Marshawn Lynch, who didn’t play against the Titans. Lynch got into a little legal trouble in the offseason, and this isn’t his first time, so you would think that commissioner Roger Goodell would be all over him.


But the team says that they haven’t heard from Goodell or his office, and that could be a very good sign for the Seahawks as Lynch is the only weapon they can depend on until Flynn (or Wilson) finds his feet under center. Don’t expect to see a lot of Lynch during the preseason as the Seahawks want to keep him out of Goodell’s sight, which will work out nicely for their sports betting odds for the upcoming season.
