Northwest Sports Update
A 5 dimes review of Seattle’s offseason would state that the Seahawks are struggling to get everyone on the same page as they are dealing with a potential quarterback battle between Matt Flynn and Tarvaris Jackson, which means problems at other positions aren’t what they need. Now, the Seahawks could start the season without their star running back and they may need more help at receiver after letting a player go.
Marshawn Lynch is thought to be by some bookies, as well as NFL experts, as the only sure thing in Seattle on either side of the ball. Lynch rumbled for 1,204 yards, which ranked him seventh in the league and his 12 touchdowns, put him tied for third among all NFL running backs. In March, the Seahawks decided that they couldn’t do without Lynch, re-signing him to a $31 million deal over four years, and this included $17 million in guaranteed money along with $6 million as a signing bonus. However, Lynch was arrested over the weekend due to a DUI and that will likely lead to a suspension under commissioner Roger Goodell, given his legal history. Lynch hit a woman with his car in Buffalo four years ago, and he was suspended for three games in 2009 after a weapons charge. He’ll probably get the hook again for multiple games and that leaves the Seahawks looking for a replacement, which will likely come in the form of a combination of Leon Washington and Robert Turbin and that will really hurt the Seahawks’ football betting odds when the season open up at Arizona. How long with Lynch be gone for? Three games, possibly more, if you look at his history with the commissioner.
Another player that won’t be in a Seattle uniform next season is Mike Williams, but he won’t be in one permanently as the Seahawks parted ways with the receiver, who was trying to come back from a leg break suffered last year. Williams has had an uneven career as he floundered as a first-round pick in Detroit, and struggled more in Oakland, but he had 751 yards under Pete Carroll, who coached Williams at USC. However, sports betting (click here for more sports betting information) players know that Williams had been dealing with conditioning issues and that was before his injury and even though he was working hard, Williams just wouldn’t have made the team. The Seahawks are also saving themselves $3.6 million via Williams’ cap hit, and now that leaves a little more room for the likes of Golden Tate, who is expected to take the next step in his progression in 2012 and that should benefit the Seahawks’ NFL betting odds.
