Seahawks release wide receiver Mike Williams

Per an announcement from the Seattle Seahawks and later confirmed by Adam Shefter of ESPN, Wide receiver Mike Williams has been released by the ball club.

"We would like to thank Mike for his contributions over the past two seasons and we wish him well in the future," general manager John Schneider said in a team release.

He was brought in by former Trojans coach Pete Carroll and a "project" at WR, and had a great first year on the club, starting a ton of games and grabbing 83 receptions for 987 yards with five touchdowns in 2010/11.

In 2011 he caught just 18 passes for 236 yds in 12 games with 1 TD in 2011/12. Most folks figured the writing was on the wall for him.

The Seahawks have depth and youth on the roster hoping to push for roster sports.

Kris Durham, Sidney Rice, Doug Baldwin, Golden Tate, Deon Butler, Ricardo Lockette, Ben Obomanu and UFA's Lavasier Tuinei, and Jermaine Kearse are all breathing a little bit easier today.
