Three Man Competition

The Portland Trailblazers are envisioning battles for spots when camp opens later this year, and competition among players is always a good thing for a team as it pushes players to perform better and you get to see them at their best.

Even though Seattle’s executives are saying all the right things currently, they could have a quarterback battle on their hands in the coming days.

Matt Flynn was the Seahawks’ big-name free-agent signing, but some BetOnline.com reviews would point to one huge game he had down the stretch against Detroit, when his Green Bay Packers were resting players, and then not much else.

He has probably received a few tips from playing behind Aaron Rodgers, but there are some who are skeptical of his ability to be a front-line starter in the NFL.

He was brought in to challenge Tarvaris Jackson, but that won’t be much of a battle. His main competition may actually come from a rookie.

Russell Wilson turned heads at North Carolina State and then again at Wisconsin, where he led the Badgers to the Big Ten title and a Rose Bowl berth before heading to the pros, and players that work with pay head systems would likely say that he has some great intangibles that you need in a quarterback.

Even though he isn’t the biggest player in the league, especially as a quarterback, Wilson is a game competitor who is accurate and can move around in the pocket. He put on a show at rookie minicamp and he is now the frontrunner to back up Flynn, but he could even push for the starting role.

Flynn will probably start the season as the No.1 guy as the Seahawks brought him for $19 million over three years, with $10 million guaranteed, and there won’t be a lot of pressure on him right off the bat.

The Seahawks aren’t high on the list at the best sports betting sites and he will be allowed to settle into his new surroundings. But Jackson has been likely pushed out of the frame and it should come down to Flynn as the starter and Wilson being able to learn under Flynn, who would be in the role of mentor after learning from Rodgers for his entire career.

It also helps that San Francisco is in the NFC West and while the Seahawks won’t roll over for them, the 49ers are far and away the favorites to win the division after coming up just short against the eventual Super Bowl champion New York Giants in the NFC conference game.

The quarterback situation seems to be more settled in Seattle, and that can only boost their odds at places like Bodog down the line.
