Bruce Irvin signs with the Seahawks
Per a report from Pro Football Talk, and later confirmed by Seattle Times Danny O'Neil the Seattle Seahawks have locked up 2012 1st round draft pick and the 15th overall selection Bruce Irvin from West Virginia.
Andrew Brandt reports Irvin gets $9.34M fully guaranteed over 4 yrs, w/over $5M signing bonus
Irvin is the first first-rounder to sign his contract.
The Seahawks moved back 3 spots to 15th overall as well as acquiring a 4th round (114th) and 6th round (172nd) in the process to grab Irvin in the first round.
What our man Brandon Choate said about Irvin in his draft spotlight.
Quote:
He is a high energy pass rusher who excelled at both DE and OLB.
He is also strong and has good push off the line due to his years as a WR in high school.
On video, he overpowers the guy on the end and slips past backfield blockers. He pushes lineman backwards and keeps them on their heels instead of their toes.
What we know about the contract.
By rule, it will be a 4-year deal with a team-held option for a fifth year.
If the option is exercised, Irvin will receive in 2016 the average salary paid to the third-highest paid defensive end, through the 25th.
At West Virginia Irvin's senior season of 2011 was a slow year, he flew under the radar with his 40 tackles (14.5 for loss), 8 sacks, and 3 forced fumbles.
His junior season in 2010 saw him get 21 tackles (14 for loss), 14 sacks, a pass deflected and 2 forced fumbles.
Officially. Welcome to Seattle Bruce.
