Honestly im not sure where the thought of carp at third is coming from. The guy has played only 12 games there in the minors and out of his nine attempts he made three errors. Not looking great

I think that Smoak WILL get better and possibly be a star. As for starting 1st base, I'm just not sure. If we could utilize him elsewhere or bring in a would-be first baseman and DH them, it would work in out favor.
As for a Pujols kind of guy, I would pay him gladly if he brought power numbers back to the PNW for a few years. It would pay dividends in so many ways!!

oops my last post...I meant seeger at 3rd. why do I have Carp on the brain? Danny your probably right. The last few bats the M's paid big bucks for were worn out, maybe they are gun-shy.

Ah Seager... that makes way more sense. Thanks for Clarifying. What would be great if the Mariners had a few more Ken Griffey Jr's and A-Rod's that will stick around for the long term. that seems to be better than hired guns.

oh for sure, that's what baseball in general has been missing. The yankee's strategy of buying championships has become trend setting around the league. It's nice too see a team with chemistry opposed to paychecks. We got alot of young talent let's see if we can keep a few of them around.

the superstars help with ticket sale though right? This is why some people think baseball should go back to the steroid era. that isn't appreciating the sport though is it?

So it's a catch 22. I think winning sells ticket,s but if you don't win yes you better have a superstar or 2 to fill seats.

Hence the dilemma, however it is good to see that the management has focused on stocking the farm system so that there can be more home grown heros so to speak. Though safeco looked awfully empty this past season

Mike Carp is the quintessential player without a true position. He's not quick enough to play left field, and his foot work doesn't allow him to regularly play 1B at the MLB level. He is a full on DH in Seattle. If the Mariners go bold and sign Prince, it would automatically shift Smoak to the DH position. (Same reason for Carp are the same for Smoak, to slow for LF). Carp at least could be a serviceable left fielder. Think a poor man's Raul Ibanez..

You don't think prince would move to a full time dh role? I thought that was the reason he was considering the move to the American league.
