Josh Lueke traded to the Rays Sunday
Left-handed hitting catcher John Jaso was acquired by the Mariners in a trade Sunday with Tampa Bay for reliever Josh Lueuke.
M's fans rejoice. We have a guy who can possibly replace Miquel Olivo.
Jaso, 28, has hit .245 with 10 home runs and 71 RBIs in 595 at-bats over three seasons with the Rays.
Josh Lueke, 26, was acquired from the Rangers in the Cliff Lee deal in July of 2010. He appeared in 25 games as a rookie last season, going 1-1 with a 6.06 ERA in 32 2/3 innings.
Jaso had this to say about the trade.
Lueke, 26, posted a 6.06 earned-run average in 25 games last season, striking out 29 versus 13 walks in 32-2/3 innings. The pitcher arrived in the Cliff Lee
"I guess what it comes down to is I've always been a Pacific Northwesterner at heart, so this lets me come home," said Jaso, 28, a left-handed hitting catcher.
Lueke just wasn't working out quite as well as projected. And the M's are seriously hurting for catching depth. Josh Bard - give me a break And Jaso can hit lefty so this was pretty good deal imo.
