Miguel Olivo groin injury going on the disabled list
The Mariners lost 2-1 to the Rays in 12 innings on Monday night. They lost more than the game.
One of their hottest batters Miguel Olivo left Monday's game in the bottom of the ninth inning with an apparent groin injury.
He's hit .324 over the past eight games with three home runs to lift his season average to .210.
Olivo went 2-for-4 with a solo homer before exiting versus the Rays.
Here's the video of the Olivo injury after he attempted to make the play on a B.J. Upton ground ball in the ninth.
Quote:
"I tried to be aggressive, the way I am, and make that play at first base," Olivo said. "My leg stuck in the grass and I felt a pop in my groin. I know that feeling. I know my body. I have to be honest with myself. I know it's not going to be easy. It's hurting and real painful."
With Olivo headed to the disabled list the M's have to make a decision on the replacement piece.
Against righties I'd think we'll probably see John Jaso. Against lefties you'll probably see Montero behind the plate and possibly Liddi at DH.
Another option if Mike Carp is ready is to bring him up to be the DH.
The last option, and I'm not sure I like this one would be to call up Guillermo Quiroz to serve as the emergency catcher.
We'll know tomorrow.
