Ducks and Spartans Complete Football Agreement
The University of Oregon and Michigan State have agreed in principal to a home-and-home football series between the two schools which would commence in Eugene in 2014. The Ducks would return the visit to East Lansing, Mich., during the 2015 season.
The two football programs engaged in a similar series in the late 1990s, with Oregon winning in Autzen Stadium in 1998, 48-14, while the Spartans prevailed at home, 27-20, in 1999.
“I have tremendous respect for the program that Coach (Mark) Dantonio and his staff have built at Michigan State,” Oregon Head Coach Chip Kelly said. “There is little doubt a game of this magnitude will present an early-season challenge for us but one that hopefully will make our team better as the season progresses.”
Oregon concludes a home-and-home series with Tennessee in 2013 when the Volunteers are scheduled to visit Eugene on Sept. 14.
“Michigan State is a quality opponent and we are excited to host them at Autzen Stadium,” Oregon Athletics Director Rob Mullens said. “The home-and-home series with Michigan State will complement the rigors of the Pac-12 Conference. The Pac-12 and Big Ten share many of the same ideals and this non-conference match-up will benefit both schools.”
