The University of Oregon men’s basketball team (23-9) will host Iowa (18-16) on Sunday, March 18 in the second round of the 2012 National Invitation Tournament.
Tip-time is scheduled for 2 p.m. (PT) at Matthew Knight Arena in Eugene.
The Ducks, a No. 3 seed in the tournament, are coming off a 96-76 home win over LSU in the NIT first round. Iowa, a No. 7 seed, posted an 84-75 home win over Dayton. The UO-Iowa winner advances to the quarterfinals to face the winner of No. 1 Washington and No. 4 Northwestern.
Iowa leads the all-time series over Oregon, 5-0. The Ducks are 17-37 overall against Big Ten teams. These two teams last met back in the 1962 Far West Classic, with Iowa registering a 62-48 victory over Oregon. Sunday’s game marks Iowa’s first trip to Eugene. The previous five contests have been played either at Iowa City, Iowa or on a neutral site (two in Madison, one in San Francisco and one in Portland).
