Today the CFL's winningest head coach the BC Lions Wally Buono was awarded the Annis Stukus Trophy as the CFL’s coach of the year for the fourth time.
He beat out Edmonton coach Kavis Reed and Winnipeg coach Paul LaPolice.
All Buono did in 2011 was defeat the Edmonton Eskimos in the West Division semi-final.
Then he got his team to beat Winnipeg 34-23 at the 2011 Grey Cup.
The championship win was Buono’s fifth as a head coach.
Buono led B.C. from a 1-6 start in August to a 10-1 finish to the regular season.
After 21 years in the CFL, Buono stepped down from his head coaching duties shortly after last year’s Grey Cup victory to become the Lions GM.
Wish Wally congratulations on twitter @GM_Brillo“Football is about winning … when you’re 0-5, life isn’t very pleasant, but I had been there before. We had a tremendous group of good guys, good coaches. We had good leadership.”
