The game was first played way back in 1894 and in the all-time series the Ducks have won 57 times, the Beavers have won 46 times, and there have been 10 ties.
The Civil War game was not held in the years of 1900, 1901, 1911, 1943, and 1944.
The game began to be called the Civil War game in 1929 and before that is was called either the Oregon Classic or the State Championship Game.
The Civil War game is the 7th oldest rivalry in college football.
FACT: Rivalry in college football goes back to 1894. The two sides played for the Platypus Trophy (Wiki) until 1961 before it was lost and recovered in 2005.
In an interesting stat the home team won the Civil War game every time from 1997 to 2006 and the streak was snapped in 2007 when the Ducks beat the Beavers in a thriller at Autzen Stadium 38-31 in double OT.
The longest winning streak in the Civil War game is 8 games, which each team has done once.
There is a lot of history in the game and one great story was what happened after the game in 1910.
After the Ducks beat the Beavers in Corvallis 12-0 and fans of both teams got into it after the game. The public relations department at Oregon spread rumors that students from Oregon Agricultural College (part of OSU) were being hooligans and with students from each schools still feuding the game was suspended in 1911.
Great Memories Of The Civil War
There have been many memorable Civil War Games and while Oregon won 37-20 last season against a 5-6 Oregon State team the win by the Ducks secured their spot in the BCS title game.
2009 was a big game to say the least and it was the first time ever in the Civil War game where the winner would be playing in the Rose Bowl.
LaMichael James rushed for 166 yards with 3 TD in that game as the Ducks prevailed.
In 2001 the Ducks needed a win to capture the Pac 10 conference title and a chance to play in the Fiesta Bowl while OSU need a win to get their 6th win and be eligible for a bowl.
In a huge rainstorm the Ducks used a 2nd half punt return for a TD to win 17-14.
1998 saw the first OT game in the Civil War and after Oregon State won 44-41. Their fans stormed the field after the first OT was over when the Ducks could not convert a 4th down conversion.
However, there was a pass interference call giving Oregon another chance to get a first down. It took 15 minutes to clear the field and Oregon did get a FG, but OSU came back and scored to get the upset win.
In 1959 the Beavers came into the Civil War game at 2-6 while Oregon only had one loss and had to win to get a shot in the Rose Bowl. However, OSU won the game, as their defense held the Ducks to only 7 points in a 15-7 final score.
