Canucks vs. Lightning Betting Odds & Handicapping Preview Jan. 10

I lost money last night too

Well, the Vancouver Canucks got the bad game out of their system. Truth be told, you could almost see this one coming after their emotional win in Boston on Saturday. It was their first loss in regulation to the Florida Panthers since 1999!

Vancouver doesn’t have much time to dwell on their unflattering effort on Monday, the Tampa Bay Lightning are waiting in the wings looking to avenge a loss to the Montreal Canadiens on Saturday night.

The Lightning may be the perfect remedy for what ailed the Canucks on Monday night – they have lost three straight games and have not looked good in the process.

Vancouver has nobody to blame but themselves for a loss to the struggling Panthers on Monday night – a brutal second period in which they registered just two shots on goal was the difference.

If there was a good sign ahead of their Tuesday showdown it is the fact that they responded to their awful second period and outshot the Panthers 14-2 in the third.

Offensively, the Canucks had been playing decently but on Monday night they scored just once – 3 minutes and 11 seconds into the game. Ugly, I know. Expect a bounce back game against a Tampa team that can’t seem to keep the puck out of their net.

Is Sami Salo that much of a difference maker on the Canucks defense? He was diagnosed with a concussion after Brad Marchand’s dirty hit on Saturday – there has been no timetable for his return.

The Canucks looked OK defensively on Monday and blame for the loss certainly cannot be pinned on Roberto Luongo.

Sportsnet Murph has already tweeted that Cory Schneider will get the start tonight in Tampa Bay after a four hour bus ride last night from Sunrise Florida.

Tampa Bay has underachieved in a big way this season – they are three games under .500 and have lost three straight games overall, the latest being a 3-1 loss in Montreal on Saturday.

Canucks vs. Lightning

Vancouver Canucks vs. Tampa Bay Lightning Gambling Lines & Preview

Steven Stamkos has picked up eight goals in his past six games and now leads the NHL with 28 goals on the season.

Four ahead of Phil Kessel, Martin St. Louis has a goal and eight assists in his last six games and Vincent Lecavalier has five goals and four assists in his last 12 games.

Tampa is 14th in the NHL in goals for but their problem has been their goals against – 30th in the league and allowing 3.4 goals per game.

Surprisingly, the Lightning, with all of their firepower are just 27th on the power play, converting just 13.8% of their chances.

Expect Mattieu Garon to start in goal on Tuesday. He is 11-11-2 with a 2.85 goals against average this season while Dwayne Roloson is a hideous 6-9-1 with a 3.76 goals against average and an awful .881 save percentage.

The Vancouver Canucks have traditionally had a very difficult time versus the Southeast Division – Monday night’s Dud was further proof.

Did the Sedins actually play?

Those that follow the Canucks know that this team is as hard on itself as its fans and the media. There is no way that Alain Vigneault will allow this team to settle for another substandard effort.

Vancouver is elite – bounce backs are a part of being just that.

Pick: Vancouver Canucks -154
