Canucks vs. Dallas Stars betting odds & handicapping preview – March 22nd

Betting Man? Will Canucks turn it around vs. Dallas?

The Vancouver Canucks showed up on Wednesday night against Chicago – that’s for sure but the one goal they managed to score 27 seconds into the game wasn’t enough as they lost their second straight game and their fourth in the last five.

Now Vancouver faces the prospect of facing a Dallas team that has gone 7-2-1 in their last 10 games possibly without Daniel Sedin who was victim of a Duncan Keith elbow on Wednesday.

The Vancouver Canucks are struggling but at least we all saw some of the emotion that has sadly been lacking the last few weeks.

The offense will come – what this team needed was a spark – the shenanigans of Wednesday night’s contest may have well provided that!

Vancouver is still sixth in the NHL in goals for despite being virtually shut down… again. Henrik Sedin looked as though he was breaking his slump with four points in two games but since then has gone pointless in his last two contests.

Daniel Sedin was held off the score sheet and has flown back to Vancouver for tests after a dirty hit by Keith.

The offense has stalled but at least the chances were there on Wednesday night.

What is most encouraging about Wednesday night’s game was the play of Roberto Luongo. After going 0-3-0 with a 5.30 goals against average and a .845 save percentage in four games, Lou looked great in stopping 35 of 37 shots directed his way.

There is a chance that Cory Schneider starts on Thursday in the second leg of back-to-back games. (as of 11:50am we don’t know yet, Schneider did take the optional gameday early skate)

Schneider is 3-2-1 with a 1.51 goals against average and a .951 save percentage in his last six appearances.

The Dallas Stars have crept up into the third place in the Western Conference and first in the Pacific Division on the heels of their 7-2-1 streak. Their standing is tenuous to say the least but their recent play is impressive.

The Stars are 20th in the NHL in goals for but the team has been very good of late in the goal scoring department. Loui Eriksson has six points in three games, Michael Ryder has three points in two games and Mike Ribeiro has two points in his last two.

Some help from Brenden Morrow and Steve Ott would be nice – Morrow is pointless in three games and Ott has just one point in four.

Dallas is 12th in goals against but the goaltenders have just been OK as of late. Kari Lehtonen is 1-1-0 with a 3.36 goals against average and an ugly .885 save percentage in his last two games.

Dallas is 11-3 in their last 14 games overall but Vancouver is 9-3 in the last 12 meetings.

Vancouver has had little adversity lately and they appear to have been coasting through the last couple of weeks. Let’s see what the potential loss of Daniel Sedin will do for this team. Will they rally around the loss or will they simply continue to sleepwalk down the stretch?

My guess is that the latter will happen – if the Canucks couldn’t get it going with their best offensive weapon in the lineup, it will be difficult to generate any mojo with him out of the lineup.

Vancouver is struggling and will continue to do so on Thursday night.

Pick: Dallas Stars -105
