Canucks vs. Columbus Blue Jackets betting odds and handicapping preview

Slumping Canucks Have Revenge on the Mind

The scuffling Vancouver Canucks head to Columbus for the second time in a week on Tuesday hoping to snap and uncharacteristic four game slide. Vancouver lost 2-1 in overtime to the Jackets Thursday before another road loss Sunday at Minnesota.

For Columbus, they have won five straight games but still sit in last place in the Central Division while the Canucks have gone 0-2-2 and now find themselves in second place in the Northwest Division behind the Minnesota Wild team that beat them Sunday. It’s not time to panic yet Canucks fans but a little worry is certainly warranted.

Nothing is going as planned for the Vancouver Canucks at the moment. The goaltending has gone from spectacular to average and the offense has all but dried up. The power play is 0-for-20 in the last eight games and the Canucks have scored two or less goals in each of their current four game skid.

Henrik Sedin is in the midst of a seven-game points streak for the Canucks, with four goals and five assists over that span.

He is the only obviously hot Canuck offensively – shocking to say the least!

Vancouver will turn to Roberto Luongo between the pipes in relief of Cory Schneider who has started four of the Canucks’ last five visits to Columbus, including a 2-1 overtime defeat Thursday.

Schneider has also started Vancouver’s last three games and five of the past six. Lou is 0-3-1 with a 2.49 goals-against average in his last four starts at Nationwide Arena since his lone win there Oct. 6, 2006.

Roberto Luongo

Vancouver will turn to Roberto Luongo tonight

The Columbus Blue Jackets are playing arguably their best hockey ever and are coming off a home-and-home sweep of the Detroit Red Wings over the weekend. They have won five straight games – 1 off a franchise record of 6 during the 2006-2007 season. The team has been led by Sergei Bobrovsky who was just named the NHL’s First Star of the Week. Bobrovsky had a League-high four wins last week along with a 0.77 goals-against average, .972 save percentage and one shutout.

He is 6-1-1 in his past eight starts for the Blue Jackets, with a 1.62 GAA and two shutouts over that span.

Offensively the Jackets aren’t exactly lighting it up – they have relied on Bobrovsky for their recent uptick. The Jackets score an average of just 2.23 goals per game – roughly a half a goal less than the Vancouver Canucks and Vancouver isn’t exactly among the elite offensively at the moment.

Dave’s won’t cost you anything free betting prediction:

A few trends to consider:

• VAN are 2-6 in their last 8 Tue. games.
• Over is 5-2-1 in VAN last 8 road games.
• CLB are 42-88 in their last 130 overall.
• VAN are 10-2 in the last 12 meetings.

It is pretty difficult to trust the Canucks at the moment indeed. Not only have they been losing but they have been losing ugly as of late. Kevin Bieksa should be back in the lineup Tuesday to help an anemic power play but will it be enough?

Columbus has been doing something right – they beat Detroit twice on the weekend after knocking off the Canucks last Thursday.

It is a matter of confidence – the Jackets have tons, the Canucks have none.

Pick: Columbus Blue Jackets +129
