The Hawks have been superb this season – if not for a late game collapse in Tampa the other night they would be alone on top of the NHL standings.

The Canucks have lost two straight games after an impressive two game win streak. Sunday night will be a very interesting early season test.

Vancouver has been a maddening team all season long. They are fourth in the Northwest Division – fourth! The Canucks are an incredible 11th in the Western Conference. This is a much better team than they have been playing.

After starting the season well, the twins have been held to one assist over the last two games – a big reason that the Canucks have been struggling. They will get going again – fear not but don`t expect huge things on Sunday either. Dave Bolland, who has played the Sedins very tough is playing extremely well this season and will certainly be shadowing the twins again.

Roberto Luongo should start on Sunday – the team needs to get him going! He has looked better in his last two starts but is still an unflattering 4-4-1 with a 3.19 goals-against average this season. He will have to be sharp against a Hawks team that is averaging 3.23 goals per game this season.

Canucks vs. Blackhawks Gambling & Handicapping Preview

Before Friday`s loss in Tampa, the Hawks were on a three game winning streak. Everyone that should be contributing on this team is – Patrick Kane has two goals and five assists in the last three games and Marion Hossa has two goals with four assists in his last three games overall. It is obvious why Chicago has only two Regulation losses in 13 games this year.

Corey Crawford got the night off in Tampa Bay. He has been superb this season – 6-2-2 record and 2.33 GAA. Crawford played very well against the Canucks in the playoffs – remember!

The Canucks are 0-6 in their last 6 games as an underdog and 3-8 in their last 11 road games. The Blackhawks are 4-1 in their last 5 games as a favorite and are 6-1 in their last 7 vs. Western Conference. The home team is 6-2 in the last 8 meetings. The Over is 9-2-1 in Blackhawks last 12 home games.

Chicago is simply the better team at this point of the season. Both teams see this game as a huge measuring stick and should come out firing but the facts remain that Vancouver has been a pretty bad defensive team this season – the Hawks have been a great offensive team. Having watched every Vancouver game, they have given me nothing to think that they are ready for the Hawks. It will be a good game, make no mistake about it but the better team (at this point in the season) will win the game.

Pick: Chicago Blackhawks -142
