Canucks Hit the Road for the First Time – Take on Undefeated Ducks

The Vancouver Canucks finally got a win Wednesday night – finally. They head out for their first road game of the season Friday when they visit the team that soundly thrashed them in Game 1 of the season – the Anaheim Ducks. Revenge will certainly be on Vancouver’s mind.

The problem?

Anaheim has looked terrific in their first two games this season seemingly scoring at will and playing some decent defense as well.

The Vancouver Canucks finally got a full game out of their offense, defense and goaltending Wednesday night against Calgary in a game that they largely controlled despite the close score and the shots on net totals.

Cory Schneider made 34 saves in the win and eased the all-too-familiar goaltender controversy and bounced back after five goals surrendered on 14 shots in his only other start this year.

Zack Kassian scored for the second straight game and added a beauty in the shootout. If he can produce, the absence of Ryan Kesler and David Booth won’t be as big a factor.

Some more production for Daniel Sedin, Henrik Sedin and Alex Burrows would be nice – three of Vancouver’s seven goals this season have come from defensemen – a nice stat but one that is absolutely going to have to change.

Vancouver will have to come up with their best offensive effort of this young season Friday – the Ducks are clicking and have scored 12 goals in their two games so far.

The Anaheim Ducks play their first game on home ice Friday after a very nice mini two game road trip. Strangely, it hasn’t been Ryan Getzlaf, Corey Perry and Bobby Ryan that have been doing most of the damage so far.

The third line of Saku Koivu, Daniel Winnik who has four goals already and Andrew Cogliano have combined for 14 points in two games while Teemu Selanne appears as though he has turned back the clock.

Zack Kassian

Zack Kassian scored for the second straight game last game out for the Canucks. More please!

The Ducks possess three stellar lines ahead of Friday night’s game – if the top line gets going the Ducks could be scary!

Defensively, the Ducks have been nothing special – seven goals allowed by Jonas Hiller in two games. The Canucks have a real opportunity to break out against Anaheim – the key for Vancouver is tightening up defensively and not letting the Anaheim offense to continue to roll.

Dave’s Won’t Cost You Anything Free Betting Prediction:

A few trends to consider:

• Under is 8-1-3 in VAN last 12 road games.
• VAN are 2-6 in their last 8 overall.
• VAN are 2-6 in their last 8 vs. Western Conference.
• ANA are 2-7 in their last 9 games following a win.
• Under is 10-3-1 in ANA last 14 home games.
• Over is 7-1-2 in the last 10 meetings in Anaheim.
• Over is 14-3-1 in the last 18 meetings.

These teams have alternated wins and losses in their last six in Anaheim and last 10 overall.

That should mean that it is Vancouver’s turn to win. But watching what Vancouver did against Calgary and comparing it to how Anaheim fared against the Flames, it becomes clear which is the better team at this point of the season.

Vancouver will rise but not quite yet. The Ducks are hot and the Canucks are simply luke-warm.

Free NHL Pick: Anaheim Ducks -116

I also like the Over in this one – Vancouver is giving up 3.37 goals per game and the Ducks, 3.5.

Anaheim has also averaged 6 goals for so far this young season.
