Canucks say g’bye to Corrado Hamill & Gaunce

Greener Pastures?

ICYMI last night after the 5-0 win over the Rangers Mike Gillis and John Tortorella announced the Canucks had reduced their pre-season roster.

The following player has been assigned to the Utica Comets of the AHL:

Frank Corrado (D), and Zach Hamill (C).

The following player has been assigned to their junior club: Brendan Gaunce (C) (Belleville Bulls)

Roster moves no doubt played a factor in some of these moves as did the fact that Tortorella doesn’t want Corrado playing 8 minutes a game in the Pro’s when he could play 20-25 in Utica.

Not sure what the Nucks are going to do with their 3rd line center position now. The 22-year-old former first-round draft pick Jordan Schroeder is on crutches and out 3 weeks. You had to assume he was presumably in the hunt for the third line centre spot.

You also had to assume Brendan Gaunce was one of the top candidates. His skating just isn’t NHL ready yet. One more year in Junior and a run with the Canadian Juniors (Hopefully) will see him right in 2014.
