Vancouver Canucks GM and President Mike Gillis met with the media today. He came to the podium today prepared to put in some time. He answered 35 minutes worth of questions.

Mike Gillis

End of the season presser quotes

2011/12 season was a bit  of a let down to the team and the fans. Gillis says he must still meet with ownership this week to discuss his future and won’t speculate on player or coaching decisions and movement until then.

The following are quotes that I logged via my twitter account or from others during the presser.

What we learned…

Quote of the Day – Hands down for me.

On Style of play.

On Ryan Kesler.

On two goalies on the roster.

On Zack Kassian.

On Mason Raymond.

On Cody Hodgson.

On Coach Alain Vigneault

ON The Playoffs and makeup of the team

On playing Cory Schneider as much as they did.

We know Byron Bitz is going to the AHL.

ON the season.

ON Lack.

Well Canucks fans? What do you think?

Weigh in below with your thoughts on the year end press conference that just wound up.

You didn’t expect him to tell you who they’ve got number 1 on their 2012 NHL draft board did you or will be traded first in the offseason right?

Read into all his answers what you will, but my take is he wants to sign bigger and more skilled bodies, wants Coach AV back, and has to deal with whether or NOT he’s back with the team in 2012.

The all important meeting with the owners is sometime in the next seven days. Then more decisions will come down.

Just my .02c.

  • Yeah, that’s all about all you could have expected from Gillis, especially when he says, this is a good team not in need of a massive overhaul.

The Philly route is tempting though…

  • Really liked what Gillis said about sticking with a high-scoring style of play. Good news long term for the fans. MG obviously isn’t willing to bow to outside pressure as the Blues, Coyotes and Preds move on.
