Senators vs. Canucks Betting Odds & Handicapping Preview – Nov. 20

East vs. West

The incredibly unpredictable Vancouver Canucks face the Ottawa Senators on Sunday night hoping to put behind them an ugly 5-1 loss on home ice to the hated Chicago Blackhawks. Sunday’s combatant – the Ottawa Senators, winner of three straight games.

Over/Under: 5.5 goals

Ottawa has been playing some good hockey as of late while Canucks certainly have not. The game will feature two of the brightest young defensive talent in the league – Erik Karlsson leads defensemen in scoring with 18 points in 20 games while Alexander Edler has 16 points (three goals, 13 assists) in 19 games.

One thing is certain with the Ottawa Senators – their games will be high scoring affairs.

Ottawa is seventh in the NHL but they are also 29th in the NHL is goals against – Craig Anderson has a 3.25 GAA while Alex Auld has a 4.23 goals against average. Milan Michalek has 12 goals, including four in the past six games and Jason Spezza looks reborn.

Ottawa won’t wow you with immense talent offensively but they are a hard working bunch that has an endless gas tank.

It is time for Vancouver to turn around their season – they have been sleepwalking through the season and after 19 games are .500.

Nobody could have predicted that! Inconsistency has been the word for the Canucks – they have yet to put together a three game win streak and they haven’t lost three straight yet this season.

There are a few issues for Vancouver heading into Sunday’s contest – Goalie Roberto Luongo (upper body), center Ryan Kesler (he has just two goals in 14 games to date anyway) and defenseman Keith Ballard (back) are all out against Ottawa.

The Canucks still have the Sedins playing at a high level – both Daniel and twin brother Henrik have seven points in the past five games for the Canucks. They also still have the best power play in the league – 26.7% so the Canucks should be due after scoring just once against Chicago.

The key will be Corey Schneider who will start in goal for Vancouver. He has never started a game against Ottawa but is just 2-4-0 this season with a 2.76 goals against average.

He will have to slow an Ottawa team that is averaging 2.90 goals per game this season.

Dave’s Free Canucks Betting Predictions

Vancouver has won seven of eight last meetings with Ottawa – including all four in Vancouver outscoring the Senators 29-13 in that span.

Vancouver won both meetings with Ottawa last season, outscoring the Senators 10-4. Ottawa hasn’t won in Vancouver since March 13, 2004.

Everything points to a Vancouver victory except for their recent play.

I am tempted to ignore the Moneyline in this one all together – the Canucks have been Jekyll and Hyde all season long. But, unfortunately, I have to go for the Sens in this one.

No Luongo, no Kesler and no Ballard is a huge problem for Vancouver.

Ottawa is hot and Vancouver will need all hands on deck but with the injuries there are a few hands absent from that deck.

Pick: Ottawa Senators +165 and the Over – 5.5 goals
