The Vancouver Canucks are back at home on Monday night to take on the very impressive Minnesota Wild. Vancouver has been climbing the NHL standings at a rapid pace of late but they have been looking up at the Wild all season long.

*NHL ATS Matchup Report*

Vancouver will look to close the gap a bit on a team that has been on top of the NHL standings all from the outset. Minnesota may be ripe for the pickin’ – they are winless in their last three games (0-2-1).

Minnesota has been all about defense and goaltending all season long. They only score 2.42 goals per game but they are 20-8-5! Nicklas Backstrom is 7-2-2 with a 1.96 goals-against average in his last 11 starts, and ranks among the NHL leaders with a 2.06 GAA.

Great numbers but he is just 0-2-1 with a 3.97 GAA in his past three games against the Canucks – all on the road.

Minnesota won’t bring a ton of offense – Cal Clutterbuck has 2 goals and 3 assists in his last five games and is the hottest Wild. It is clearly up to the defense in this one.

The Vancouver Canucks return home after a 3-1-1 road trip having gained points in 11 of their last 13 games (10-2-1). They are five points behind the Wild with a game in hand – you can expect their A-Game on Monday.

The Vancouver offense keeps clicking along. Daniel Sedin has 4 goals in his last five contests, while his twin brother Henrik has 6 assists over that same span. Mason Raymond has 6 points in last seven games and Ryan Kesler has been playing very well to boot. Vancouver has three strong lines going well – they are going to be tough to handle.

In goal, Vancouver has been very solid. Roberto Luongo stopped 26 shots on Saturday and improved to 5-0-1 in his last six starts. He is back to form – a good sign for the Vancouver Canucks.

Dave’s Free Canucks Betting Predictions

Minnesota is 7-1 in their last 8 road games but is 17-7 in their last 24 overall. Minnesota is 0-8 in the last 8 meetings in Vancouver. Vancouver is 10-3 in their last 13 overall. The home team is 13-3 in the last 16 meetings.

Vancouver has been trying to get back to the pinnacle of the NHL and after a poor start to the season, they are nearly there.

A win against Minnesota will go a long way in helping believe. There is no reason for me to think that Vancouver will lose in this one.

They are playing well in both ends of the rink and they do have a very good knack of showing up in big games.

Vancouver loses to the bad teams and beats the better ones – Minnesota is one of the better ones!

Pick: Vancouver Canucks -200
