Flying V’s Hat Trick: What an Ugly Hockey Game! Ducks Win Easy…

First Game After A Road Trip…

The Vancouver Canucks couldn’t overcome the stress of their recent road trip out East and allowed the Anaheim Ducks to dominate Sunday night’s 4-2 final at Rogers Arena.

The win was Anaheim’s fifth in their last six games, suggesting the Ducks have begun to adjust to Bruce Boudreau and his new system of coaching.

The Hat Trick

Luongo Left Alone

Roberto Luongo was tested early and often on Sunday, stopping 10 of 11 shots faced in a frustrating first period for the home team.

Luongo made a sensational save on Nick Bonino in the opening frame but was unable to follow up on the rebound as Bonino flipped the puck past a sprawling Luongo.

The home goaltender was alone in a crowd from the Canucks’ crease, doing his best to keep the Canucks in the game as they fought to muster only three shots over the entire first period.

Boudreau’s Killer Bs

Bruce Boudreau didn’t have the smooth start he was hoping for in Southern California but has turned his team around as the NHL regular season rages on.

The Ducks dominated Vancouver in the first half of the game Sunday as Bonino, Jason Blake and Bobby Ryan capitalized on the Canucks’ miscues over the weekend.

Ryan and Blake both beat Luongo with wrist shots labelled for the top corner as Vancouver’s last line of defence struggled to keep up with Anaheim’s skaters.

Sedins Silent

The Sedins twins remained silent on Sunday as Anaheim relied on their star players to ripple the mesh behind Roberto Luongo. The Sedins totalled only four shots between them against Boudreau’s Ducks and were caught with a rare negative number beside them under the +/- column.

After Vancouver’s scoring depth kept the Canucks afloat during their Eastern Conference road swing the team’s top tandem must find a way to produce in the comforts of Rogers Arena.

V’s Thoughts

The Vancouver Canucks appeared tired and frustrated as the Ducks continued their recent dominance over the Northwest Division in another convincing win this weekend.

The Canucks were helpless opposite Anaheim, unable to manufacture any sustained pressure on goaltender Jonas Hiller. Mason Raymond’s late wrap-around on Hiller will be missing from most highlight reels on Monday due to the Ducks’ sheer dominance in Sunday’s game.

Quote

“No, we’re going to make sure we figure out what we can do better and make the necessary adjustments, we can’t lose those games.” – Cody Hodgson on whether Sunday’s sour game against the Ducks will be an easy one to forget in anticipation of the Kings on Tuesday.

It’s just so tough to contain Jason Blake, he’s just too good.

(I do not endorse that statement one bit)
