Colorado Avalanche vs. Canucks betting odds and handicapping preview – January 30

Headline: Canucks Look to Snap Two game Slide – Host Avalanche Wednesday Night

The Vancouver Canucks can thank Roberto Luongo for the one point they gained in Los Angeles on Monday night – he was clearly the best player on the ice for an obviously tired Vancouver squad.

The Canucks will likely turn back to Cory Schneider when they host the Colorado Avalanche Wednesday night – a team that played without their best player Gabriel Landeskog on Monday night and subsequently got soundly beaten by the Edmonton Oilers 4-1.

The Canucks enter Wednesday’s game riding a seven game win streak versus the Avs – three by shutout!

The Colorado Avalanche will need all hands on deck if they hope to defeat the Canucks on Wednesday but that seems unlikely – Gabriel Landeskog figures to miss his second straight game with an apparent concussion. Offense has been a problem for the Avs thus far – they have averaged just 2.00 goals per game and their power play is clicking at just a 6.7% clip.

The Avs generated 39 shots against Edmonton Monday in a loss but converted on just one. PA Parenteau has three goals in four games and is Colorado’s biggest threat.

Defensively Colorado has been just OK. They have allowed 2.60 goals per game so far but are allowing over 33 shots per game. Seymon Varlamov has seen action in every game this season and has posted a 2.59 GAA and .919 save percentage. Jean Sebastian Guigere may get the start Wednesday – he has played on 17 minutes this year.

The Vancouver Canucks will be happy to be back home after three straight on the road and they will be happy to have had a day off after playing three games in four nights. They should be eager to get back on the ice though after getting schooled in San Jose and letting one slip away in LA.

Vancouver has averaged 2.50 goals per game so far this season but the offense has looked out of sync at times this year. Zack Kassian continues to play well on Vancouver’s top line and he leads the team with four goals in six games. Alex Burrows has also looked good on the second line – he has scored in two straight games proving that he doesn’t necessarily need the Sedins in order to be productive.

Vancouver’s defense has been inconsistent to say the least. Turnovers killed them in Anaheim and if not for Roberto Luongo, giving the puck away might have cost them a point in LA. The D has to tighten up – a date with the shorthanded Avs may be just what the doctor ordered.

Cory Schneider will likely get the nod in goal Wednesday but he is currently the second best keeper in Vancouver. Roberto Luongo has so far outplayed Schneider – Cory is 2-2-0 with a 3.13 goals against average and a .897 save percentage this season.

A few trends to consider:

• Under is 9-2-4 in COL last 15 vs. Northwest.
• COL are 3-9 in their last 12 overall.
• COL are 16-39 in their last 55 vs. Northwest.
• Under is 6-1-4 in VAN last 11 vs. Northwest.
• VAN are 38-13 in their last 51 vs. Northwest.
• VAN are 3-8 in their last 11 overall.
• COL are 4-18 in the last 22 meetings.
• Over is 5-2-1 in the last 8 meetings in Vancouver.

The Colorado Avalanche may be just what the Vancouver Canucks need to kick start their season going forward – the Avs are average up front and they have an average defensive corp.

Coming off a loss in Edmonton, and without their best player, Colorado is extremely beatable at this point of the season.

No excuses Vancouver!
