*NHL ATS Matchup Report*

The Colorado Avalanche had been making their fair share of noise in the NHL’s Western Conference with a 7-1-1 stretch before three straight losses has them clinging to hope that a post season berth is within their grasp.

While Colorado is not out of the picture yet, they have just four games left and are in a tie for eighth in the standings with teams that have games in hand.

The Colorado offense is currently ranked 19th in the NHL but their goal scoring has all but dried up during their recent slump. They have scored two or fewer goals in their last four contests losing three of those games.

Jamie McGinn continues to be the best Avs weapon and has 12 points in 12 games while rookie Gabriel Landeskog has impressed but only has two points in his last two. Paul Stastny has been decent as well with seven points in seven games but the team will definitely need some production from their other top players.

Matt Duchene is pointless in four games, David Jones is pointless in four and Steve Downie despite some gritty play has just two points in his last seven contests.

Colorado will likely turn to Seymon Varlamov between the pipes again on Wednesday despite his recent struggles. Varlamov is 0-2-1 in his last three starts with a 3.33 goals against average and .891 save percentage.

In his last five starts against Vancouver, Varlamov is a miserable 0-4-1 with a 3.29 goals against average.

The Vancouver Canucks don’t quite appear to be rid of their substandard play just yet despite a three game win streak. Before their current streak the Canucks had lost eight of 11 and are still a pedestrian 5-4-1 in their last 10.

Vancouver sits just two points behind St. Louis for first overall in the NHL – needless to say, the boys certainly have something to play for.

Vancouver will once again be without Daniel Sedin on Wednesday but some unforeseen secondary scoring has picked up the slack. Mason Raymond has three points in three games, Henrik Sedin has seven points in seven games and Chris Higgins has two points in his last two games.

However, Ryan Kesler and Alex Burrows are pointless in six games and David Booth hasn’t found the score sheet in five.

Roberto Luongo is unquestionably the best Canuck at this point in time after an unflattering stretch brought out the Luongo haters in droves. Since an 0-3-0 with a 5.28 goals against average stretch Lou is 2-0-1 with a sizzling 1.30 goals against average.

Against Colorado, Lou is 10-0-2 in his last 12 starts with a 2.24 goals against average.

Dave’s wont cost you anything Kings vs. Canucks betting prediction

The Vancouver Canucks own the Colorado Avalanche plain and simple.

The Canucks have gone 14-0-2 in their last 16 meetings with the Avs and have won all five games against Colorado this season outscoring them 18-5.

The Canucks haven’t looked great the last week or so but like all good teams they are simply finding ways to win. Against Colorado look for much of the same – when push comes to shove, Vancouver is better and deeper that the Avs.

On Wednesday the Canucks should do just enough to make things very interesting atop the NHL overall standings.

Pick: Vancouver Canucks -170

Game 77 Avalanche vs. Canucks: Let’s not jump to conclusions
- NWSB Vancouver Canucks Insider Josh Hall slits this game down it’s very thin throat and calls a Vancouver win over the Colorado Avalanche. While the Avs basically need this victory to stay alive in the playoff race, they are 0/5 with a couple loser points against the Canucks this season. Via the teams twitter account Tuesday backup Cory Schneider will start.

Nice preview Dave, I also went with the Canucks again tonight, but am worried that the ambivalence over playoff position and the desperation coming out of Denver might swing things the Avs’ way tonight.

Man Landeskog is going to be so good.
