Canucks All Access – The Week of Bad Beats
The Vancouver Canucks beat the St. Louis Blues in the debut of this year’s trade acquisitions last Thursday, showing Zack Kassian, Samuel Pahlsson and Marc-Andre Gragnani a taste of the good life before being blown out by both the Sabres and Stars at home.
Roberto Luongo was pulled after allowing three goals on the first seven shots faced against Buffalo, only to allow four goals in another disappointing performance against Dallas. The Sedin twins have similarly struggled over the past week, having been held without a point over their last three games.
Daniel Sedin has a lone assist between the talented twins over their last six games.
While the Canucks have struggled over their last few games, the rave reviews of newly acquired Zack Kassian have come rushing in. The days of crying over Cody Hodgson seem long gone after Kassian buried his first as a Canuck in Vancouver’s 5-3 loss to Hodgson and the Sabres.
The Canucks didn’t win the fight on Saturday, but some fans seem certain to have already won the war with Buffalo.
Around the Rink
Vancouver’s loss to the Dallas Stars may have been a tough ticket to swallow for fans, but thanks to the slick moves of an especially eccentric youngster, those inside Rogers Arena were treated to some extra entertainment during a break in play on Tuesday.
Jack the dancing super fan won the jersey off the back of Dan Hamhuis for his efforts earlier this week, and he didn’t even have to break out the morph-suit. Way to go, kid.
Continuing in their support of young kids with physical and mental disabilities everywhere, the Vancouver Canucks will host their 22nd annual Canucks for Kids Fund Telethon on Thursday, March 8th as the team takes on the Winnipeg Jets at Rogers Arena.
The telethon will air on Team 1040 Sports Radio all day from Noon until Midnight, and will be featured on Rogers Sportsnet Pacific during the game broadcast.
Fans can donate online at Canucks.com or via phone at 1-85-KIDSFUND (1-855-427-3863) on March 8th only, phone lines will be open from Noon until Midnight. Website open 24 hours.
Thursday’s fundraiser should bring a lift to both the Canucks and their fan base, but as we know nothing brings out the smile in a child’s face like a commanding, entertaining win.
In the Infirmary
Andrew Ebbett skated on his own before the Canucks practiced on Thursday after missing the last 25 games with a broken collar bone sustained in Vancouver’s big win over the Boston Bruins.
