Willie Desjardins

NWSB Insider and Vancouver Canucks Blogger Andrew Deutschmann recaps the rumor that Willie Desjardins could become the new head coach of the Nucks. According to TSN’s Bob McKenzie, the team could introduce him as the new lead man next week. Deutschmann explains why this looks like a great hire for Trevor Linden and Jim Benning.

What I’m watching vs Hamilton today

Emmanuel Arcenaux, should be a virtual lock to be on the roster

NWSB Insider and BC Lions blogger Andrew Deutschmann weighs in today with a post about what he’s watching on the field tonight in the BC vs. Hamilton matchup. If both offences come out to play, we could be in for a real shootout at BC Place tonight. There should be lots of scoring, lots of great plays and plenty of fireworks. Despite his inefficiency over the last few games, Travis Lulay should be licking his chops to face these guys. Nice to see Tim Brown back too.

Lions re-acquire Buck Pierce from the Blue Bombers

1

NWSB Insider and BC Lions Blogger Andrew Deutschmann breaks down the team’s recent trade to bring back Buck Pierce. The hope here is that Pierce won’t have to play much, as Travis Lulay is the consensus starting quarterback. However, having someone who is familiar with the offence is crucial in case adversity strikes. The Lions acquired Pierce from the Winnipeg Blue Bombers in exchange for wide receiver Akeem Foster

Reasons why Chapdelaine should be on the *Hot Seat*

1

NWSB Insider and B.C. Lions Blogger Andrew Deutschmann breaks down why this may be Jacques Chapdelaine’s last season as the team’s offensive coordinator. Deutschmann admits that the struggles of Travis Lulay aren’t all Chapdelain’s fault. However, ten years with one organization is a long time, and after a down year, he just might consider moving on to become a coach elsewhere, such as the Montreal Alouettes.

What I’m watching vs Calgary tonight

BC vs. Winnipeg Love em & Hate em

NWSB Insider and BC Lions blogger Andrew Deutschmann weighs in today with a post about what he’s watching on the field tonight in the BC vs. Calgary matchup. Going into this season, if you told him the Lions would be last in the league in sacks in Week 8, Andrew would have said you were crazy. Sadly, you’re not crazy. The biggest reason for this seems to be moving Keron Williams. Special Teams. Whether it’s blocking or poor decision-making by Tim Brown, something needs to change soon.

Why Isi Sofele was nearly claimed by the Tiger Cats

isi-sofele-bc-lions.png

NWSB Insider and BC Lions blogger Andrew Deutschmann weighs in today with a post about the fortunate news for Isi Sofele, he is wanted after all. The Hamilton Tiger-Cats put in a waiver claim for Sofele, but according to the rules of the CFL, the team who owns the contract has a chance to keep a practice squad player claimed by another team by instantly putting him on the active roster. So after all was said and done, Sofele ended up on the 46 man roster.

Special teams hurting the BC Lions

paul-mccallum-bc-lions.png

NWSB Insider and BC Lions blogger Andrew Deutschmann weighs in today with the question of whether or not the special teams unit is hurting the Lions. Sure, the Lions are off to a 2-1 start, but as Andrew points out, they could just as easily be 0-3 at this point. The offense and defense have been great, but it’s the special teams that have really lacked this year. Whether it is not giving the O good field position, or some bad snaps and holds, or to flat out missing extra points, the play just has not been good enough. Plain and simple.

Welcome To Vancouver Bo Horvat: Centre | London Knights

Can we get Horvat a gold medal please?

NWSB Insider and Vancouver Canucks’ blogger Andrew Deutchmann welcomes the newest addition to the Canucks, Bo Horvat, center out of London in the OHL. Horvat is a 6 ft 211 lb 18 year old that will most likely spend at least the next season in the AHL before making his splash up in Vancouver. He played along side a couple other standout Knights, Max Domi (Phoenix 2013) and Alex Broadhurst (Chicago 2011) he finished 4th on the team in scoring. This should bring some much needed help to the Canucks.

Tortorella will and won’t be a good for the Canucks…

JOHN TORTORELLA

NWSB Insider and Vancouver Canucks’ blogger Andrew Deutchmann gives you his perspective on the signing of new Cancuks head coach John Tortorella. At first when Andrew heard that Mike Gillis was going to interview Torts for the job he wasn’t too amused. But ever since then the idea has grown on him, and now he thinks it may even be a good thing. If not, Andrew thinks it will be a long five years in Van City.

An Umpire’s view: The controversial double play call

Double Play...NOT

NWSB Insider and Seattle Mariners blogger Andrew Deutschmann weighs in today on the blown call heard around the world from Saturday night in the Mariners/Rangers ball game. He’s umpired for the White Rock South Surrey Baseball Association in BC for close to six years and while that doesn’t hold a candle to the MLB, he can do us a favor and shed a little light on what the umpire saw on this botched play and what his responsibilities were.

Five positions to watch at BC Lions 2013 training camp

Solomon Elimimian

NWSB Insider and BC Lions blogger Andrew Deutschmann weighs in today on the 2013 Leo’s Training camp battles to watch for. He said to watch for Strong Side Corner, Safety, Receiver, Back Up/Third String Quarterback, and Kicker as the best battles to view. 23 year old Hugh O’Neill will look to unseat Paul McCallum. Yes he`s talking kicker. Travis Lulay`s backup isn`t clear. Thomas DeMarco and Jarrett Brown and now Joey Elliot will duke it out.
